Website Analytics Coming soon

Add one line to your website and see how many people visit, where they come from, which pages they read, what they click and where they leave. Visits are counted anonymously by default, with nothing stored on the visitor's device and no third-party trackers.

Overview

Website Analytics gives you:

Coming soon: early access

Website Analytics is coming soon. Until then it is opened to selected workspaces for early access. It does not appear in the Marketplace at all until it is opened for yours.

To ask for early access, open Help & support at the bottom of the sidebar, or email info@softsolz.uk with the name of your workspace. Once it is opened for your workspace, its card appears in the Marketplace ready to install, and your sandbox workspace gets it too.

Add the script

  1. Install Website Analytics from the Marketplace. Website Analytics appears in the sidebar.
  2. Website Analytics → Install → Add a website. Give it a name and its address, for example example.com. Adding example.com also covers www.example.com. The website must use https://.
  3. Copy the line under Website script and paste it into the <head> of every page on your website.
<script src="https://app.softsolz.uk/softsolz.js"
  data-service-id="web-analytics"
  data-public-key="pk_live_…"
  defer></script>

The website shows Not seen yet on the Install page until the first visit arrives, then Live. The tracking key only works on the addresses you added.

Website Builder sites

When Website Analytics is active, publishing a site with the AI Website Builder adds the script for you. The site appears under Website Analytics → Install, its addresses follow the published site (including your own domain), and you set its privacy options there like any other website.

Privacy and banner changes reach a Website Builder site on the next page load, with no new publish. If you remove a site's tracking key, publishing no longer adds the script; create a new key to start counting again.

Privacy settings

Visits are always counted anonymously. Each visitor is counted with a key that changes every day and is worked out on our servers. The visitor's IP address is used only for that count and to find their country, and is never stored. Only the two-letter country code is kept. Nothing is stored on the visitor's device for this.

Choose under Install → Privacy when a visitor may also be remembered, so their next visit links up with the earlier ones:

SettingWhat happens
Ask first (the default)Visits are counted anonymously. A visitor is only remembered after they agree, through the SoftSolz banner or your own cookie banner.
Remember every visitorEvery visitor is remembered unless they decline, so repeat visits link up. Use this only where your privacy notice and the law allow it.
Never rememberVisits are always counted anonymously. Nothing is stored on the visitor's device and nobody can be linked to a contact.

Remembering a visitor keeps a random visitor key in their browser's storage. That counts as storing information on their device, so in the UK and the EU you need their agreement first. Mention Website Analytics in your own privacy notice.

If you already have a cookie banner, call these from it:

Softsolz.consent('granted')
Softsolz.consent('denied')

denied also removes the visitor key from the browser.

Browsers that send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control are not counted at all, whatever your setting. Known bots and crawlers are not counted either.

No cookie banner yet? Turn on Install → Show a consent banner and SoftSolz shows a small banner with Accept and Decline to visitors who have not answered yet. Write your own Banner text, or leave it empty for the standard wording: This site counts visits without storing anything on your device. Can we remember you on your next visit?

The script reads the setting each time a page loads, so there is nothing to copy again. The banner only shows with Ask first, never with Remember every visitor or Never remember, and the answer is kept in the browser so a visitor is asked once. To keep it off a single page, add data-consent-banner="off" to the script on that page.

What is recorded

Tracked clicksAny element you mark with data-ss-track.
Custom eventsNames you send with Softsolz.analytics.track.
Where the visit came fromThe referring website's name, the campaign tags on the link (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, utm_content), and which ad network's click tag was on the link.

Track a button or link by giving it a label, or send your own event from code:

  Softsolz.analytics.track('quote_requested')
</script>

Labels and event names can be up to 80 characters.

What is never recorded

Reports

Every report has a date range (7 days, 30 days, 90 days, 12 months or your own dates) and can compare with the period before or the same period last year. Filter by website, country, channel or device. The view is kept in the page address, so a link you share opens the same view.

TabWhat it shows
OverviewVisitors, visits, page views, average visit, bounce rate and pages per visit, each with its change. A day-by-day chart, then top pages, channels and countries.
PagesViews, visitors, entries, exits, exit rate, time on page and scroll for every page, with key pages marked. Open a page to see where visitors went next.
SourcesChannels, then sources, campaigns, first pages and countries. Click a channel or a country to filter every report by it.
BehaviourWhat visitors clicked, by kind, where visits end, and the next page after any page you pick.
VisitorsRemembered visitors, known contacts first. See Visitors and contacts.
How the numbers are counted. Visitors are counted day by day, so someone who is not remembered and comes back on another day counts again. A visit ends after 30 minutes with no activity. A bounce is a visit with one page that lasted under 10 seconds.

Visitors and contacts

Website Analytics → Visitors lists the visitors who are remembered, known contacts first, with their website, visits, where they first came from, country and when they were last seen. Search by contact name. Open a visitor to see every visit, newest first, with the pages read, time spent, clicks and the page they left on. Delete visitor removes the visitor and all their visits.

A remembered visitor is linked to a contact when, on the same website, they:

Each visit stays with the contact the visitor was linked to at the time. If a different person later signs in on the same browser, their visits go to their own contact and the earlier visits stay where they were.

Your own app can also link a visitor to a contact through the API. From then on their visits show on the contact's activity timeline in Contacts, with the pages they read. A visitor who is not remembered is never linked to anyone. When you export or erase a contact's personal data, their website visits are included.

Key pages and workflows

Mark the pages that matter, such as /pricing or /book, under Install → Pages → Key pages (up to 20 per website; end with * to cover a section). Key pages are marked on the Pages report and can start a workflow.

In AI Workflows, three triggers come from Website Analytics:

TriggerWhen it fires
A website visitor became a contactA remembered visitor was linked to a contact. Narrow it to forms, newsletter, sign up, sign in or your app.
A contact came back to your websiteA known contact started a new visit. Optionally only after a number of days away.
Someone viewed a key pageA known contact opened a key page, once per visit. Anonymous visitors do not start it.

The same three moments are sent as webhooks, set up on the Developers page.

Monthly limits

Each plan includes a number of events a month across all your websites. An event is a page view or a click the script records; time on page and scroll updates do not count.

PlanEvents a month
Free10,000
Basic100,000
Growth500,000
Business2,000,000
CustomNo monthly limit unless your plan sets one

Admins get an in-app notice and an email at 80% and at 100%. Once the limit is reached, new visits are not counted until the next month or until you upgrade. Visits are kept for just over a year; remembered visitors are deleted a little over a year after their last visit.

Use the API

Read every report from your own systems, list remembered visitors, link a visitor to a contact after they sign in to your own app, or delete a visitor. Use a secret key (sk_…) with the Website Analytics scopes. The Website Analytics developer guide covers the script, the consent calls and linking visitors from your server.

Test it step by step

These steps work once Website Analytics has been opened for your workspace (see early access).

  1. Get access. You need the Super Admin or Admin role, or a custom role with the Website Analytics setup permission.
  2. Install it. Open Marketplace, find Website Analytics and click Install.
  3. Add your website. Go to Website Analytics → Install → Add a website, name it and enter your address. It shows Not seen yet.
  4. Paste the script. Copy the line under Website script into the <head> of your pages and publish them.
  5. Visit your website. Open it in a normal browser window (Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control switched off) and click through two or three pages.
  6. Check it arrived. The website now shows Live on the Install page, and Website Analytics → Overview shows your visit and page views.
  7. Try remembering. Turn on Show a consent banner with the privacy setting on Ask first. Reload your website, press Accept, then fill in a SoftSolz form on the same website. You appear under Visitors, linked to the contact.

If something goes wrong

You seeWhat it means
The website stays on Not seen yetThe script is missing from the page, the page address is not one you added, or your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. Check the address under Install, including https://.
Visits stopped arrivingCount visits is off, the key was replaced and the old script is still on the page, or the monthly limit was reached.
Nobody appears under VisitorsVisitors only appear once they are remembered. With Ask first, they must accept the banner or your own cookie banner must call Softsolz.consent('granted').
The banner does not showThe privacy setting is not Ask first, the script on that page has data-consent-banner="off", or the visitor already answered.
